The Resort

The Ancient Bubble Farm

Where time stands still

The first historical record of the ancient Cascina Bolla dates back to 1604.

A house and a court, just as Piedmontese tradition dictates. It is thanks to the time, passion and work of many people that today we are allowed to admire the wonderful Cascina Bolla, with its perfectly restored and preserved L-shaped structure, its large surrounding park and its Chapel, consecrated and accessible to the public.

Hospitality that looks to Leisure customers, but also to Business customers, who are very strong and developed in the area.

The Stop

The Million and the connection to the theme of travel

The resort established in 2006 owes its name to the function that this ancient farmstead has served over the years: a stopping and refreshment station for pilgrims.

Hence the idea of “tying” this reality to the work of Marco Polo’s “The Million.”

In Marco Polo’s The Million, the book of the wonders of the world, the adventurous journey from Venice to the court of Tartar Kublai Khan emperor of Catai (modern China) is recounted, made from 1271 to 1295 by a merchant family, the Polos, of which Marco was the youngest member.

Marco Polo in 1298 was taken prisoner by the Genoese at the naval battle of Curzola and, locked in a cell with the writer Rustichello da Pisa, dictated to his fellow prisoner his recollections of his journey along the Silk Road. The original copy of the manuscript has been lost, but copies in 16th-century Tuscan, French and Italian are preserved.
In the panels of the great hall, Il Milione is transcribed in the form of calligrams – alphabetical letters joined to compose images – illustrating some details of the Polo’s hypothetical caravan to Catai.
In the glass cases of the corridor, fragrant and colorful spices immerse us in the lands of the far East.
In the column of the small hall – the point of the end and beginning of the journey, a metaphor for the eternal and cyclical value of human wandering – the figure of Rustichello da Pisa traced in the words of The Million accompanies us along the route that was Mark’s.

The Chapel

A sacred place within the resort

It is estimated to have been built between 1712 and 1742 and has a marble plaque inside dedicated by Giuseppe Nicolao Bolla to his wife Laura Francesca Stortiglioni.
It was probably, at first, for the exclusive and private use of the Bolla family, but in 1749 it is mentioned as St. Mary’s Church in an official document. In 1901 it is referred to as the “country church of Bolla under the title of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.”

A mix of history, art and architecture

A place percolated by centuries of history

There are pictorial decorations in the structure dating back to the early 20th century, while the ancient Via Levata, the street where La Fermata is located, dates back to Roman times and owes its name to the typical elevation above ground level (a feature that has made the area a geographical landmark for centuries).

These and other details make La Fermata not only a place of hospitality, but a true archaeological site.
